FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:


Q: Who decides who will be on the Wrap Team?
A: The family decides. Coordinators will make suggestions but the family always has the final say.


Q: Where and when will the meeting be held?

A: The meeting will be held wherever is most convenient and comfortable for the family and the people who are closest to them. Sometimes the family and the team decide to hold the meeting at a time or place that’s less convenient because they are trying to include people whose assistance is necessary or desirable.


Q: What is a referral?

A: A referral is how a family gets connected to I Famagu’on-ta. Some hear about it from doctors, teachers, therapists & other professionals. Some hear from people they know or see information distributed about the program.


Q: What happens next?

A: Program staff tells the family whether or not they are eligible to be in the program. Next, a Wrap Coordinator is picked. The Coordinator contacts the family and begins to get to know them.


Q: What do people do when the wraparound plan isn’t working?

A: They convene an emergency wrap meeting.


Q: What is a Wraparound Meeting?

A: A wraparound meeting is a planning session, attended by family members, the people they wish to include (see team question) and professional service providers. During the meeting, participants help the family define the outcomes they wish to achieve & the unmet needs that keep them from achieving them. They then plan strength-based strategies to meet the unmet needs & figure out who will do what, when, and so on…


Q: What is an I.E.P. meeting?

A: An I.E.P. or Individualized Education Plan meeting is a session, usually held at a school, initiated by school personnel, for the purpose of planning a child’s education, typically for an entire school year.


Q: What do people do when an I.E.P. isn’t working?

A: They convene an emergency I.E. P. meeting.


Q: Do Wrap Coordinators attend I.E.P. meetings?

A: Only when their attendance serves a specific purpose.


Q: Can families get help with I.E.P.’s?

A: We are working on making that kind of help available as soon as possible. Our plan is to provide training on education law and childrens’ rights, so that we have a pool of well informed people available to meet this need.


Q: What are the priorities of Wrap Coordinators?

A: The main priority of Wrap Coordinators is to coordinate Wrap Meetings to develop wraparound plans & link families with resources & support people. Otherwise, they participate in events and meetings when there is a clear purpose or reason for their participation.
